EMU swim team ranks fourth after day one at Denison Invitational

The Eastern Michigan University swim team is in fourth place after the first day of the Denison Invitational held at the Trumbull Aquatic Center. The event, hosted by Denison University, saw EMU earning 298.5 points on Thursday, December 5.

Eastern Michigan started strong with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team, consisting of Marlee Christie, Emma Littrell, Lucy Noble, and Kiersten Russell, achieved a time of 1:33.82, nearly three seconds faster than their previous season-best.

Azra Umut delivered a personal best in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:58.49 in the finals after setting another personal record during prelims. Nehir Oz followed closely behind in eighth place with a time of 5:02.74.

In the 200-yard individual medley (IM), Tristen Mina secured sixth place with a time of 2:06.26, while Abby Szadorski finished twelfth at 2:07.21.

Kiersten Russell tied for eleventh place in the 50-yard freestyle with her personal best time of 23.64 seconds. Emma Littrell also recorded a personal best to finish thirteenth at 23.71 seconds.

The day's events concluded with EMU's seventh-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay, where Russell, Szadorski, Mina, and Littrell set a season-best time of 3:47.87.

After day one, Emory University leads with 534 points followed by Denison University and the University of Indianapolis.

Eastern Michigan will continue competing on Friday as they enter day two of the invitational.
