Eastern Michigan volleyball falls to Buffalo despite Stayer's double-double

Graduate student Maddie Stayer achieved her sixth double-double of the season during Eastern Michigan University's volleyball match against the Buffalo Bulls. The team faced a 3-1 defeat in a four-set match at Alumni Arena on Friday, November 15.

Stayer, hailing from Mentor, Ohio, contributed significantly with 12 digs and 10 assists. Kaili Doctor led the team's offensive efforts with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .250. Defensively, Hannah Blaney topped the charts with 17 digs, followed by Stayer's 12 and Ava Siefke's 11. Hatteras Welker and Siefke made notable contributions in blocking, with seven and five blocks respectively.

The Eagles struggled in the first set, losing 25-13 after trailing by up to 12 points. The second set saw them narrowly lose again, this time by a score of 25-23. In the third set, Eastern Michigan rallied from a seven-point deficit to win 25-21 but couldn't maintain momentum into the fourth set, losing it 25-19.

"Eastern had more digs than its opponent for the 17th time this season," stated EMUEagles.com. Despite these efforts, they fell short against Buffalo's consistent performance.

Kaili Doctor led the team in kills for the twelfth time this season with her tally of twelve. "Doctor leads the team in kills with 228 on the year," as noted in their statistics. Taylor Smith was also instrumental in setting up plays with a team-high of fourteen assists.

This match marked the thirty-third encounter between Eastern Michigan and Buffalo. Historically, Eastern holds a favorable record against Buffalo with twenty-two wins out of thirty-three matches.

The Eagles will conclude their season with another match against Buffalo on Saturday, November 16 at Alumni Arena.
