Eastern Michigan University's women's basketball player, Olivia Westphal, has been recognized as the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on November 15. This marks the first time Westphal has received this honor and is only the 11th such academic accolade for the program.
Westphal, a redshirt junior from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, began the 2024-25 season with impressive performances in her initial games. She achieved back-to-back games with three or more successful three-point shots, totaling 12 in just three games. Last year, she recorded 23 across 29 games. Her standout performance included scoring 20 points with five triples against Texas State and adding nine points with three long-range shots against Alabama A&M and Michigan State. Currently, she leads the MAC in made three-pointers, averaging four per game.
Eastern Michigan will resume play after a ten-day break on Thursday, November 21. They will face Purdue Fort Wayne at home at George Gervin GameAbove Center with a scheduled start time of 6:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased by calling or visiting their website.
