Chairman John Moolenaar and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and Chinese Communist Party have expressed their approval of Canada's recent decision regarding TikTok. Canada has announced that TikTok will be required to shut down its offices in the country following a national security review.

In a joint statement, Moolenaar and Krishnamoorthi said, “We are pleased to see Canada take the important first step of scrutinizing ByteDance’s foreign investment in Canada and closing TikTok’s offices. As Congress recognized when it enacted the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Applications Act, the CCP’s control over ByteDance and TikTok poses a profound national security risk, and it is imperative for our partners and allies around the globe to take action to counter the threat.”

The announcement aligns with ongoing concerns about ByteDance's connections to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its implications for national security. The U.S. Congress had previously acknowledged these risks through legislation aimed at protecting against foreign adversarial applications.
