Eastern Michigan University has announced the promotion of Jessica Nietrzeba to Associate Athletic Director for Development. This advancement was confirmed by Scott Wetherbee, Vice President and Director of Athletics at EMU, on November 6, 2024. Nietrzeba previously held the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Development and brings nearly two decades of experience with the university.
"Jessica is a remarkable leader who truly understands our donors and our mission," stated Wetherbee. "She has been an invaluable part of our University community for many years, and we're thrilled to see her take charge of her own team. We look forward to continuing to break fundraising records under her leadership."
Nietrzeba's association with EMU began in 2006 as an undergraduate intern. She completed her Master of Science in Sports Management in 2008 and has since taken on various roles within the university, particularly strengthening connections with alumni and donors through Alumni Relations. Her efforts as Assistant Athletic Director included significant initiatives such as the Ben Braun Court naming.
"I'm incredibly honored to step into the role of Associate AD for Development at EMU," said Nietrzeba. "This is a pivotal time to build on the momentum we've created and continue driving forward the success of our fundraising efforts... I would also like to show my gratitude and thank VP Wetherbee and VP for Advancement Maher Salah for this wonderful opportunity! I'm very excited and can't wait to get started."
In fiscal year 2024, EMU Athletics achieved a record-breaking fundraising total exceeding $14.5 million in pledges and commitments from alumni, fans, and friends. This achievement surpassed the previous record set in fiscal year 2020 by over $4 million. Contributions supported various initiatives crucial for more than 500 student-athletes representing EMU.
Under Wetherbee's leadership since his arrival in Ypsilanti during the 2017-18 academic year, Eastern Michigan has secured over $36 million in cash and pledges.
