Eastern Michigan University's men's basketball team is set to begin its 2024-25 season against Texas State on November 4 at Strahan Arena. This matchup marks the start of the Mid-American Conference-Sun Belt Conference Challenge.
In preparation for the new season, Eastern Michigan recently defeated Central State 85-63 in an exhibition game on October 30. Junior Christian Henry led with 21 points, while senior Da'Sean Nelson contributed 18 points. The Eagles capitalized on turnovers, forcing Central State into 25 and scoring significantly off these opportunities.
The team has undergone significant changes this year, introducing 11 new players to its roster. Notable additions include seniors Jalen Terry and Da'Sean Nelson from DePaul, as well as junior Christian Henry from Panola College. Despite these changes, Eastern Michigan retains key players such as Arne Osojnik and Jalin Billingsley from last season.
Head coach Stan Heath enters his fourth year with a record of 31-62 at EMU. The team was picked ninth in the MAC preseason coaches' poll after finishing tenth last season.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will face three first-time opponents this season: Texas State, Houston Christian, and Wright State. They will also play five true road games early in the schedule for the first time since the 1936-37 season.
Eastern Michigan aims to build on its performance from last year when it had success in close games, holding a record of 12-7 in contests decided by ten points or less.
The Eagles are scheduled to host Siena Heights next on November 8 following their opening game against Texas State.
