Eastern Michigan University's soccer team is preparing for a decisive match against the University of Akron, set to take place on October 31 at FirstEnergy Stadium. This game marks the conclusion of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season, and a victory is essential for Eastern Michigan to keep their tournament hopes alive.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, and live statistics will be available on EMUEagles.com. As part of their preparation, Eastern Michigan has been focusing on maintaining strong defensive performances. The team has achieved eight clean sheets this season, which is their best record since 2014.

Senior Maddie O'Farrell recently led her team to a crucial win over Kent State by scoring her third goal of the season early in the match. Redshirt sophomore Ella Holland also played a key role by making an important save in the final moments of that game. Holland's performance this season has been notable; she currently holds a goals-against average (GAA) of 0.82, one of the best in program history.

Eastern Michigan started their 2024 campaign with four consecutive wins, matching their start from 1999 when they made their only NCAA Tournament appearance. Head Coach Taylor Clarke is leading his first season with Eastern Michigan after taking over from Scott Hall, who retired last year.

For Eastern Michigan to qualify for the MAC Tournament, several outcomes are necessary alongside their own victory against Akron: Central Michigan must lose or draw against Buffalo; Toledo must lose or draw against Ball State; Miami must lose or draw against Ohio; Northern Illinois must lose at Western Michigan; and Kent State must lose to Bowling Green.

The Eagles have remained unbeaten at home throughout this season and have shown resilience in matches where they scored late goals. Sophomore Olivia Sipsock has been particularly effective at Scicluna Field with multiple goals this year.

If Eastern secures a spot in the MAC Tournament, they will play again on November 3 in the quarterfinals.
