The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) men's basketball team is set to host Central State in an exhibition game on Wednesday, October 30, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti. The game begins at 6:30 p.m., and admission is free for attendees.
Historically, EMU has a strong record against Central State, with five wins out of seven games played. In their last encounter on December 8, 2018, EMU secured a decisive victory with a score of 105-53. As the new season approaches, the Eagles have been ranked tenth in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) preseason poll.
The team's regular season will kick off against Texas State on November 4 as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge. This year’s roster includes eleven new players such as seniors Jalen Terry and Da'Sean Nelson from DePaul, along with several international freshmen including Mario Brunetto from Italy and Mbaye N'Diaye from Senegal.
Head coach Stan Heath enters his fourth year leading the Eagles with a career record of 31-62 at EMU. Last season saw sophomore Arne Osojnik emerge as a top freshman scorer in the MAC. The team also returns key players like seniors Jalin Billingsley and Yusuf Jihad.
Central State's head coach Travis Lewis will make his return to EMU where he was previously recognized as MAC Defensive Player of the Year during his college career.
Looking ahead, EMU will face various teams throughout their non-conference schedule including matches against Siena Heights, Oakland, and Detroit Mercy. Notably, they are set to compete against three first-time opponents this season: Texas State, Houston Christian, and Wright State.
