Redshirt sophomore Ella Holland has been named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Defensive Player of the Week after achieving two clean sheets for Eastern Michigan University's soccer team. The MAC announced its weekly winners on Tuesday, October 29.
Holland, hailing from Dunwoody, Georgia, is the first Eagle to receive MAC Player of the Week honors since Sabrina McNeil in March 2021 and the first EMU player to earn the defensive award since Haley Tausend in November 2019.
Holland was notable as the only player in the MAC to secure two clean sheets and more than four total saves during the week. Her performance included a significant leaping save with just 40 seconds left, securing Eastern's 1-0 victory over Kent State on October 27.
"Match on the line, Ella made the save!" tweeted EMU Soccer on October 27.
Throughout the week, Holland recorded eight saves and now boasts eight clean sheets this season—the highest for EMU since 2014.
Eastern Michigan will conclude its regular season at the University of Akron on Thursday, October 31 at 4 p.m., aiming to qualify for their first MAC Tournament since 2019.
