Eastern Michigan University's football team faced a setback against the University of Akron, losing 25-21 in a Mid-American Conference game at InfoCision Stadium. Despite overcoming an 18-point deficit for the second consecutive week, a late touchdown by Akron secured their victory. The Eagles now hold a record of 5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Zips improved to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in MAC competition.
The Eagles struggled early, trailing 8-0 after the first quarter and facing an 18-0 deficit at halftime. This marked their first scoreless opening half since their September game against Jacksonville State University. However, Eastern Michigan rallied with Cole Snyder throwing two touchdown passes to Jere Getzinger, bringing them back into contention. Delbert Mimms III added another touchdown, giving the Eagles a temporary lead.
Akron responded with a decisive 21-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter. Eastern Michigan had two opportunities to reclaim the lead but failed to capitalize on them.
Key performances included Jere Getzinger's two touchdowns from Snyder's passes, marking his first multi-touchdown game. Cole Snyder ended with 346 passing yards and two touchdowns. Oran Singleton led all receivers with 102 yards on ten receptions against his former team.
Defensively, James Djonkam led Eastern Michigan with ten tackles, achieving double-digit stops for the second time this season.
Historically, this loss brings Eastern Michigan's record against Akron to 16 wins and 20 losses. Their previous four-game winning streak against Akron was halted; they last lost to Akron in October 2015.
Next week, Eastern Michigan will host the University of Toledo Rockets at Rynearson Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU and WEMU (89.1 FM).
