After three decades of service, Bruce Cunningham, the Head Men's Golf Coach at Eastern Michigan University (EMU), has announced his retirement. The 2023-24 season marked his 30th year leading the team. Cunningham's leadership transformed EMU's men's golf program into a competitive force in the Mid-American Conference.

"It has been a privilege every day to coach and mentor our student-athletes," Cunningham said. He emphasized the importance of the new GameAbove Golf Performance Center in supporting future teams.

Under Cunningham, EMU secured multiple victories, including MAC titles in 2007, 2008, and 2019. His tenure also saw numerous top-three finishes. Cunningham was named MAC Coach of the Year three times.

"Eastern Michigan has provided me with the professional courtesy and framework to build a nationally relevant Division I program," he continued.

Scott Wetherbee, EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics, praised Cunningham: "His dedication and unwavering commitment to excellence have shaped champions on the course."

The GameAbove Golf Performance Center was recently dedicated in honor of Cunningham. Keith Stone, Chairman of GameAbove, expressed gratitude for Cunningham's contributions: "This dedication symbolizes the deep respect and appreciation we have for Bruce."

Cunningham ranks as one of the longest-tenured coaches in EMU history and is among the longest-serving head coaches in Mid-American Conference history.

He thanked various support staff and acknowledged his family for their support throughout his career.

Eastern Michigan will begin a national search for a new head coach to continue building on Cunningham's legacy.
