Eastern Michigan volleyball team falls to Western Michigan in three sets

Eastern Michigan University's volleyball team was defeated by Western Michigan University in a three-set match held on Friday, October 18, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Anna Guard led the Eagles' offense with eight kills. Defensively, Hannah Blaney contributed 12 digs while Hatteras Welker added five blocks.

In the first set, Eastern Michigan fell behind early and lost 25-17 after being tied nine times before Western Michigan took control. The second set saw Eastern trailing significantly and eventually losing 25-14. In the final set, Eastern could not recover from an early deficit and lost 25-21.

Taylor Smith provided 14 assists for Eastern Michigan, marking her seventh double-digit assist game this season. Blaney's performance included reaching double-digit digs for the 20th time this season and for the 58th time in her career out of 96 matches.

The match marked the 98th meeting between these two teams, with Eastern now trailing in their series against Western Michigan with a record of 74 losses to 24 wins.

Eastern will face Ohio Bobcats next on October 25 at home, with live coverage available on ESPN+ starting at 6 p.m.
