Abby Szadorski led the Eastern Michigan University swim and dive team to a decisive 190-108 victory over Cleveland State University at Busbey Natatorium. The event, held on October 18, marked the team's season opener.
Szadorski's performance was pivotal as she secured wins in three events: the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.12, the 200-yard breaststroke clocking in at 2:19.26, and contributed to the team's victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Her teammates Kiersten Russell, Tristen Mina, and Lucy Noble joined her in this relay success.
The meet saw six Eagles win multiple events, contributing to Eastern Michigan's dominance by winning nine out of twelve individual swimming events and twelve out of sixteen total events. Head Coach Derek Perkins noted this as his fourth season-opening win in six years with the program, achieving an impressive margin of victory by 82 points.
Rebekah Knapp excelled on the diving boards with a personal-best score of 317.25 in the 3-meter dive, securing her place at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. Malia Maire also achieved a career-best score of 247.50 points for first place in the one-meter dive.
Freshman Azra Umut made an impactful debut by sweeping both backstroke events—finishing the 100-yard backstroke in 57.67 seconds and completing the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.94 minutes. Ali Kudo added to Eastern Michigan's success with victories in both freestyle categories she participated in—the 200-yard (1:53.80) and the 500-yard (5:04.03).
