The Eastern Michigan University soccer team ended their match against Western Michigan University in a 1-1 draw on Sunday, October 13, at Scicluna Field. The Eagles managed to equalize late in the game with a goal from Secora Johnson in the 86th minute.

The game saw strong defensive efforts from Eastern Michigan, who kept Western Michigan off the scoreboard despite facing 15 shots and conceding 12 corner kicks during the first half. Western Michigan took the lead in the 82nd minute, but Eastern responded quickly with Johnson's goal at the 85:09 mark. The match concluded without further goals.

Eastern's goalkeeper, redshirt sophomore Ella Holland, played a crucial role by making seven saves as her team faced significant pressure throughout the game. Despite being outshot by Western Michigan, who had a total of 24 shots compared to Eastern's five and dominated corner kicks with a count of 16-3, Eastern held firm for the draw.

Following this result, Eastern Michigan's record stands at 5-5-4 overall and 1-2-4 in Mid-American Conference play. Meanwhile, Western Michigan is now at 7-1-6 overall and remains unbeaten in conference play with a record of 4-0-2.

Johnson's goal was her first of the season and only her second career goal since scoring her first on August 28, 2022. Sophomore Sarah Van Euwen and redshirt sophomore Scarlett Thomas both completed full matches for Eastern Michigan.

Historically, this draw leaves Eastern trailing slightly in their all-time series against Western with a record of 15 wins, 16 losses, and five draws. It marks their first draw since October 31, 2010. Additionally, this result means that Eastern has not lost any of their last seven home matches to start the season—an achievement they last accomplished between parts of the years spanning from late 1999 into early 2000.

Eastern Michigan will next face Northern Illinois University on Friday, October 18.
