The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team completed their participation in the 2024 Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, held at Lawrence Country Club in Lawrence, Kansas. Savannah de Bock led the team with a notable performance, finishing in a four-way tie for second place. The tournament took place over two days and concluded on October 8.
Savannah de Bock, hailing from Ecaussinnes-d'Enghien, Belgium, achieved runner-up honors with a score of 3-under 213 (72-71-70). Her performance marked her second-best score of the year and placed third all-time in Eastern Michigan's program history. "Savannah de Bock has played nine rounds over three tournaments for the Eagles and shot par or better in eight of those rounds," according to the team's statement.
Julianna Go from San Juan, Philippines, and Mariana Vega from Barranquilla, Colombia both tied for 45th place with scores of 17-over 233. Riley Kim from Aldie, Virginia finished tied for 58th at 24-over 240 while Amaya Melendez from Ann Arbor, Michigan tied for 64th at 31-over 247.
Overall, Eastern Michigan ended the tournament in twelfth place out of thirteen teams with a total score of 917 (309-302-306), finishing at 53-over par. The event was hosted by and won by the University of Kansas.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will have a break before participating in their next competition at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Kapolei, Hawaii from October 21 to October 23.
