CINCINNATI, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – After starting 4-0 for the first time since the 1999 season, the Eastern Michigan University soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2024 campaign at the Big 12 Conference's University of Cincinnati, with a score of 3-1 on Sunday, Sept. 1, at Gettler Stadium.

A span of 6:08 in the first half resulted in all three of Cincinnati's goals as they scored at the 16:06 mark, the 18:30 mark, and the 22:14 mark.

Sophomore Cameryn Susey from Westerville, Ohio netted a goal for Eastern after intercepting an errant Bearcat pass in the 85th minute. She delivered a right-footed strike from 18 yards out.

Eastern now holds a record of 4-1-0 while Cincinnati stands at 3-1-1. This was Susey's second goal of the season; her previous goal also came in the 85th minute against Oakland University on Aug. 15.

Sophomore Sarah Van Euwen from Avon Lake, Ohio played all 90 minutes for the fifth consecutive match to open this season. Redshirt sophomore Scarlett Thomas from Sterling Heights, Michigan has also completed back-to-back matches with full game playtime. Junior Arielle Fink from Bradford, Ontario made her season debut during this match.

Historically, after today's contest, Eastern trails in their all-time series with Cincinnati at 0-1-0. The Eagles are experiencing their best start since being 4-1 in the year 2001 and have scored at least one goal in each of their first five matches for the first time since 2012.

Eastern Michigan will take a break before heading to Valparaiso University on Sept. 12.
