Eastern Michigan University's senior defensive lineman Peyton Price (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) is driven by change, competition, and a desire to leave a lasting legacy. As he enters his final year with the Eagles, Price has embraced a new look, a new number, and renewed determination.
"Going into my last year, I really just wanted a change," Price said about cutting his hair and switching jersey numbers. "It's probably been since fifth or sixth grade since I had my hair short. And with that, I wanted to change my number too."
This year, Price dons the number 9, traditionally associated with skill positions. He expressed his desire for something new and even joked about wanting to play as a tight end. "Yeah, I want the ball real bad. Hopefully, I get the chance to."
With his new look comes a leadership role on the team during this pivotal season. "We got a lot of new guys on the defense and overall team," he shared. "We've got three or four transfer defensive tackles, so I've had to help them a lot."
As a senior, Price focuses on setting an example for newcomers. His offseason goal was clear: improve pass-rushing skills. "I had a few sacks last year but wanted to clean it up more," he said.
Price draws motivation from his brother Brian's success in football. "Honestly, what motivates me is our competition," Price admitted with a grin. "I want to be better than him."
Family time also plays an important role for Price, especially moments spent with his young nephew. "My brother has a kid now...he calls me 'Uncle P,' and that's just something special."
The defensive line at Eastern Michigan has faced changes but remains cohesive through shared experiences like summer workouts and their trip to Colorado where they climbed Pikes Peak.
Away from football, Price enjoys watching basketball as it provides a mental break from football demands.
Reflecting on Eastern Michigan's 2024 theme “BET,” Price explained its significance: “To me it means we're going to bet on ourselves.”
Price is motivated by memories of winning the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2022 and aims for further achievements such as breaking Eastern Michigan’s streak of not having an All-MAC defensive tackle under Coach Creighton.
As Peyton Price embarks on his final season with the Eagles, he does so with confidence built from relentless preparation and love for the game.
