In the world of college football, where competition is fierce and stakes are high, few stories embody resilience and determination quite like that of Eastern Michigan University's senior offensive lineman Broderick Roman. As the Eagles prepare for another season, Roman stands as a testament to perseverance, leadership, and team camaraderie.

For Roman, this upcoming season represents a chance to prove his worth and the potential of his entire team. "It's another chance to prove something—to prove to our team and the MAC that we can win games and get the job done," Roman says. The ultimate goal is a trip to Detroit for the Mid-American Conference Championship, a milestone that has eluded Eastern Michigan for years.

After a career marked by injuries and setbacks, Roman is eager to show he can play at the highest level. "I'm excited to play with this group. We have a great group of guys here at Eastern," he adds.

Roman's journey has been challenging. Growing up near Michigan State University, he chose Eastern Michigan for its family atmosphere and unique opportunities. "It was a program that didn't have the greatest history, but it gave me a chance to prove something," he reflects.

Injuries have tested Roman's resolve throughout his career. "It's been a long road, a lot of injuries, and a lot of off-the-field stuff, but it's only made me better," he says. His belief in himself has shaped him into both a better player and person.

As a veteran on the team, Roman mentors younger players like Nicholas Gallegos from Chicago. "He's young, but he can play ball at a high level," Roman says.

Roman’s dedication to the center position began in fourth grade. "I've just fallen in love with the position—what it asks of me and how difficult it can be at times," he shares.

Building rapport with quarterbacks Cole Snyder and Jeremiah Salem is crucial for Roman. He has known Salem since middle school and has worked hard to form strong bonds with Snyder through activities like fishing trips.

This year’s team theme is "BET." For Roman, it resonates personally as an opportunity to prove doubters wrong. "It's another opportunity to prove the haters wrong," he says.

Roman acknowledges his support system at Eastern Michigan. "I really appreciate you guys endlessly," expressing gratitude towards sports medicine staff and other personnel who have supported him over the years.
