The Eastern Michigan University rowing program has appointed Lucie Roy as an assistant coach, Head Coach Kemp Savage announced on Wednesday, August 21.
Roy joins Eastern Michigan after serving as the Head Men's and Women's Rowing Coach at Adrian College for the past two seasons.
"We are thrilled to welcome Lucie to EMU as an assistant coach," Savage stated. "Her impressive track record at Adrian College, where she led both the men's and women's rowing teams to multiple medals, speaks volumes about her expertise and leadership. With her experience developing successful programs, Lucie is poised to make a significant impact here at Eastern. We are excited to see her contribute to our program's growth and success."
During her tenure as a rower at Michigan State University, Roy achieved notable success over three years on the varsity squad. She stroked the 1V4+ team to a fourth-place finish at the B1G Championships in 2022, marking the Spartans' highest finish in an NCAA-qualifying event since 2017.
Roy was recognized as a two-time B1G Distinguished Scholar and CRCA Scholar-Athlete in 2021 and 2022. She also received Highest Honors at the 2022 Academic Excellence Gala.
"I am thrilled to be joining the coaching staff at Eastern Michigan University," Roy expressed. "The program is heading in an exciting direction, the facilities are phenomenal, and the coaches are incredibly knowledgeable. It's a spectacular time to become an Eagle."
A native of Ann Arbor, Mich., Roy attended Ann Arbor Pioneer High School where she was a Midwest Regional Champion in 2015 and served as captain during her senior year. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Michigan State in 2022.
