Andy Walker, named the Eastern Michigan University men's golf head coach on June 12, 2024, has been honored as the 2024 Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA) Coach of the Year for NCAA Division I. The announcement was made by the Association on Monday, August 19. This marks Walker's second time receiving this accolade.

Walker previously led Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to a successful season. His team won the Atlantic 10 Championship by a significant margin of 25 shots and produced individual co-champions from VCU. The team's performance earned them a berth in the NCAA Regionals, where they were seeded No. 7. At the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, VCU recorded its lowest single-round total in school history with a final round of 267. As a result, Walker was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the third consecutive time.

During that season, VCU participated in 11 events, securing three wins, seven top-three finishes, and eleven top-five showings. The team ended with the third-best winning percentage in NCAA Division I golf (136-27-3). Under Walker's leadership, individual accolades included Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year honors, with three players named to the A10 All-Conference team.

Walker's recruitment strategy significantly improved VCU's national ranking from No. 187 to No. 38 during his tenure. In his second season at VCU, his team continued to excel by winning events such as the VCU Shootout with an impressive score of 35-under par.

The first tournament for Eastern Michigan under Walker's guidance is scheduled for September 9-10 at Maricopa, Arizona's Southern Dunes Collegiate hosted by the University of Southern California.

The BCGCA aims to support Historically Black College and University (HBCU) golf programs and their participants through resources and mentorship opportunities.
