Eastern Michigan University E-Club Hall of Famer Harvey Marlatt passed away on Thursday, August 8, at the age of 75. Marlatt, a former men's basketball student-athlete, was inducted into the E-Club Hall of Fame in 1979 and was one of 15 student-athletes introduced in 2023 to the inaugural Ring of Honor inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.

Marlatt was the second player in program history to be drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA). He captained the 1969-70 team and earned a spot on the 1970 NAIA All-America Second Team. Over his four-year career at EMU, he accumulated 1,680 points, ranking eighth in program history. Notably, he ranks second all-time at EMU with 486 career free throws made. His record for most free throws made in a single season stood until 1970-71. Marlatt helped Eastern reach the NAIA National Tournament three times and was named team MVP in 1968-69. His record of 18 assists in a game against Ferris State University on March 4, 1970, still stands today. Drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the 16th round (224th overall) of the 1970 NBA Draft, Marlatt played one season for them.

Born in Alpena, Michigan on August 26, 1948, to Donald and Irene (Wilson) Marlatt, Harvey lived an eventful life that impacted many people. Raised on a small farm in Atlanta, Michigan with his mother and five brothers after his father's death when he was seven years old, he moved to Alpena at age eleven where he graduated from Alpena High School and met Connie Clark whom he married in 1968. The couple moved to Ypsilanti where Harvey attended college at Eastern Michigan.

Marlatt became a teacher and coach at Atlanta Community Schools for nearly three decades while coaching basketball for over twenty years. An avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and tennis; he spent winters at Sugar Creek in Bradenton, Florida and cherished time with family on Marlatt Mountain.

He is survived by his wife Connie Marlatt; son Ryan (Kim) Marlatt; daughter Meegan Feil; grandchildren Ashley, Jessalyn, Preston Jayden Sadie Greyson Alexandra great-grandson Hutch siblings Donald (Maryann) Marlatt Ronald numerous nieces nephews preceded death parents brothers Raymond Lawrence Rodney.

Funeral services will be held at Atlanta Community Schools on Sunday August18 visitation starts11:30 service followed luncheon Atlanta Eagles private interment Briley Township Cemetery immediate family only lieu flowers donations Hospice Michigan.
