Eastern Michigan University’s lacrosse program has been named the 2024 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Merit Squad for NCAA Division I. The Eagles achieved the highest grade-point average (GPA) among all teams in the division, as announced by the Association on August 14, 2024. The team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.738, surpassing their previous position as second-highest in 2023 behind Harvard University.

Joining Eastern Michigan on the IWLCA Academic Merit Squad list were Mercy University from NCAA Division II, Pomona-Pitzer College of NCAA Division III, and the University of the Cumberlands from NAIA. Among these institutions, only Pomona-Pitzer College had a higher GPA than Eastern Michigan at 3.825.

The IWLCA Academic Honor Squad recognition is awarded annually to women's lacrosse programs that maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher throughout the academic year. This year, Eastern Michigan was one of 327 teams nationwide to receive this accolade, which includes teams from NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA. Specifically, EMU was one of 101 schools from NCAA Division I to earn this honor.

As they approach the start of the 2024-25 academic year, Eastern Michigan's lacrosse program will be led by newly hired head coach Maddie Dugan. Dugan takes over a program that advanced to the Mid-American Conference Tournament in 2024 for its first postseason berth. She was named MAC Coach of the Year after guiding the University of Detroit Mercy to the MAC final.
