Former Eastern Michigan University men's track and field student-athlete Donald Scott concluded his participation in the Paris Olympic Games, finishing 14th in the preliminary round of the men's triple jump with a leap of 16.77 meters (55-00.00) on Wednesday, August 7.
Scott previously competed in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, where he placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 17.18 meters (56-04.50).
He earned his spot in the Paris Olympics by securing third place in the triple jump at the United States' Olympic Track & Field Trials held at Hayward Field, University of Oregon, on June 30. His qualifying leap measured 16.87 meters (55-04.25).
Scott's participation continues Eastern Michigan University's tradition of having alumni represent the Eagles in every Summer Olympics since the 1960 games in Rome, Italy.
He also became the eighth former Eagle to make multiple Olympic teams and is the first since Eric Alejandro represented Puerto Rico in both the 2012 London games and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro games.
During his tenure at Eastern Michigan from 2010 to 2015, Scott was named to the All-America team three times and earned All-MAC First Team honors five times. He holds both indoor and outdoor conference meet records for the triple jump in MAC history: an indoor record set at 16.38 meters (53-09.00) in 2015 and an outdoor record at 16.29 meters (53-03.50).
Additionally, Scott broke Eastern Michigan's program records for both indoor and outdoor triple jumps five times each during his collegiate career. His indoor program record stands at 16.84 meters (55-03.00), while his outdoor record is marked at 16.83 meters (55-02.75). Both records were set during NCAA Championships events in March and June of 2015.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan alum Brittni Mason is scheduled to compete in the Paralympic Games' T47 category for both the 100m and 200m dashes.
