JAKARTA, Indonesia (EMUEagles.com) – Sophomore Savannah De Bock, a recent enrollee at Eastern Michigan University, secured second place at the Mandiri Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World Championship 2024. De Bock, hailing from Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium, scored a two-under 214 (72-73-69) on the Damai Indah Golf - PIK Course.

The championship saw participation from 113 competitors representing 20 countries across five continents. The event, now in its 27th year, is known for showcasing emerging golf talent in a 54-hole stroke play format held from June 12-14.

Competitors were divided into three age categories: Class A (15-18 years), Class B (12-14 years), and Class C (10-11 years). Only participants in Class C competed with caddies.

The tournament featured individual competitions for the Best Gross Overall title for both men and women and included men's and women's team categories. Each team comprised one player from Class A and one from Class B. The team with the lowest combined score over three rounds emerged victorious.

Established in 1993 by Dr. (HC) Ir. Ciputra, the tournament initially operated at a national level before expanding to Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific levels, ultimately achieving global status in 2007.

De Bock, who previously won the Junior Solheim Cup in both 2021 and 2023 for Belgium, entered the competition ranked 66th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. She also triumphed in the 2022 European Ladies Amateur Championship at age 16.

The event's opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ciputra Golfpreneur Foundation (CGF) Budiarsa Sastrawinata and President Director of Bank Mandiri Darmawan Junaidi, alongside General Chairman of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI) Japto S. Soerjosoemarno.

"This championship wants to provide a place for junior golfers around the world to grow, a place to experience the culture of hospitality from the Indonesian people, and a place to build friendships among participants as well as becoming a larger golf community to strive to reach the highest level in the world," stated Budiarsa.
