The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) lacrosse program has announced the addition of transfer midfielder Payton Bloedow to its 2024-25 roster. Head Coach Sara Tisdale confirmed the news on Tuesday, June 11. Bloedow, who hails from Prior Lake, Minnesota, and previously played for Stony Brook University, will join the Eagles this fall after graduating from SBU in two years.
"Payton has been exposed to lacrosse at the highest level with Stony Brook competing against top 20 programs regularly producing NCAA Tournament wins in both of her years there," said Tisdale. "The experience Payton is bringing to EMU from Stony Brook will be of great value as we look to bring home a MAC Championship and compete well into May in 2025."
Bloedow graduated Magna Cum Laude from SBU and was part of a successful Seawolves program that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament during both her years there. As a midfielder, she played in 11 games, recording one goal, one ground ball, and two draw controls.
"Payton's values directly align with EMU Lacrosse's values," Tisdale continued. "She is service and community oriented with a passion for being a committed teammate and strong student. Adding Payton and her family to our program will have an immediate positive impact and we're thrilled to welcome them to Ypsilanti!"
A graduate of Prior Lake High School, Bloedow was a two-time captain for the Lakers and was named Minnesota Ms. Lacrosse following the 2021 season. She earned All-American honors twice and Academic All-American honors once. She concluded her high school career as Prior Lake High School’s all-time leading goal scorer with 209 goals.
Bloedow joins ten freshmen on the EMU team who come from four different states—Michigan, Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania—and two Canadian provinces—Ontario and British Columbia.
The Eagles are coming off a notable 2024 campaign where they recorded five more victories than their inaugural 2023 season and reached the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. The team was led by standout defenders Sydney Lawrence and Maddie Porter as well as offensive player Mackenzie Blackwell.
