Congressman John Moolenaar and four of his Republican colleagues in the Michigan delegation have urged Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate the International Al-Quds Day rally in Dearborn. The rally, which took place on April 5, saw individuals chanting "Death to America," and "Death to Israel." This event is part of a concerning trend of anti-Semitic activities in the United States following the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel in October 2023.
In a letter signed by Representatives Jack Bergman, Tim Walberg, John James, and Lisa McClain, alongside Moolenaar, they called on Garland to take action. The lawmakers expressed, "We are writing to call for you to investigate the recent rallies held across the US, where participants chanted 'Death to America,' 'Death to Israel,' and advocated for violence against the United States and its allies. These anti-American and anti-Semitic calls for inciting violence are not protected speech and pose a serious threat to public safety and the American values of freedom and democracy."
The Michigan lawmakers also provided a link to the complete copy of their letter as part of their call for the Department of Justice to probe into the disturbing chants heard at the rally in Dearborn.
