LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Roger Hauck has reiterated his concerns about the lack of transparency from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer regarding the impact of the migrant crisis at the southern border on Michigan. Hauck called on Democratic leadership in the Senate to address legislation aimed at mitigating the repercussions of President Joe Biden's policies.

Hauck emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, "Federal intelligence agencies have acknowledged that known terrorists have taken advantage of the wide-open border, and the Department of Homeland Security recently warned about the increased risk of an attack on American soil."

The senator highlighted the need for action to protect Michigan from the escalating issues, including the growing presence of fentanyl, the existence of sanctuary cities, and the overall security of American citizens. Hauck stated, “The influx of fentanyl and unvetted individuals are a very real threat to our national security and the safety of American citizens.”

Referring to recent incidents in Michigan, Hauck pointed out the rise in crime and overdoses, stressing the urgency of addressing these challenges. He remarked, “Crime and overdoses are increasing all over the country and, unfortunately, have begun to hit home here in Michigan."

In response to the lack of information and action from the governor's administration, Hauck expressed disappointment, stating, “There are some concerns about whether or not tax dollars are being used to house people who are here illegally — and the overall lack of information or attempts to address these concerns from the governor’s administration about an issue that very clearly affects the public, in addition to using public dollars, left us, and I think much of the public, with a lot to be desired."

Despite requests for the Senate Committee to consider the Stronger Borders, Safer Communities plan and for the governor to disclose the impact of the border crisis on Michigan, no response was received. Hauck urged for attention to be given to these critical issues and for leadership to facilitate necessary actions.
