Eastern Michigan University's women's basketball team is set to face Western Michigan University in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) opener on January 1. The game will take place at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti, with a tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on ESPN+ or listen via WEMU (89.1 FM) and The Varsity Network app.

This marks only the second time EMU will play on New Year's Day, having last done so in 2005 with a victory over Columbia. The rivalry between Eastern and Western Michigan is longstanding, as they meet for the 97th time, with EMU leading the series 53-43.

EMU's Sisi Eleko continues to impress this season, recording her seventh double-double against St. Thomas and leading the MAC in points per game (19.8) and rebounds (11.4). Olivia Westphal has been effective from beyond the arc, averaging 2.9 made three-pointers per game.

Western Michigan enters the contest with a record of 3-7. Marina Asensio leads WMU with an average of 12.7 points per game and tops their assists chart as well.

Historically, Eastern holds a favorable record against Western when playing at home in Ypsilanti, standing at 29-16. Both teams have exchanged victories over recent seasons.

The Eagles are also maintaining notable streaks this season: they have made at least one three-pointer in their last 113 games and have connected on five or more triples in all ten games played this year.

Following this matchup, Eastern Michigan will travel to Bowling Green for their first road MAC contest of the year on January 4.
