Today, Congressman John Moolenaar has been appointed as the Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA).
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Moolenaar stated, "I am thankful to the Speaker for this appointment, and I look forward to working with Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi, the members of the Select Committee, House leaders, and the standing committees in the weeks and months ahead. Together, we can help our country prepare for the challenges we face from the Chinese Communist Party and win the competition against the CCP." He also acknowledged the leadership of outgoing Chairman Gallagher, describing him as "an incredible leader for our country."
Speaker Mike Johnson praised Moolenaar's qualifications, stating, "John Moolenaar will be an exceptional chairman for the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. Our country, our economy, and our national security will be well-served by his wisdom and guidance in the ongoing work of this critical select committee."
Moolenaar's new role comes following his participation in a bipartisan Congressional delegation to Taiwan last month, alongside Select Committee Chairman Gallagher and the committee's top Democrat, Raja Krishnamoorthi. The Select Committee, established in January 2023, has been instrumental in advancing bipartisan policy recommendations to strengthen America against the CCP's increasing aggression domestically and globally. Moolenaar will assume the position of Chairman as Rep. Mike Gallagher departs from Congress.
