Congressman John Moolenaar, a member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, expressed his support for Taiwan during a visit to the island with a bipartisan Congressional delegation. Moolenaar emphasized the importance of the U.S.-Taiwan alliance, stating, “Taiwan is a tremendous ally to the United States, and it is a strong economic partner that makes many products the American people rely on every day." He also highlighted the challenges faced by Taiwan, noting, "Sadly, the people of Taiwan face daily harassment and intimidation from the Chinese Communist Party."
During the visit, Moolenaar expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Taiwanese leaders to strengthen the alliance against CCP aggression. He stated, "I look forward to meeting with Taiwanese leaders this week, and learning more on how the American and Taiwanese people can strengthen our alliance against the CCP's aggression."
In addition to meeting with Taiwanese leaders, Congressman Moolenaar and members of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party had previously engaged with Taiwanese officials. They met with Taiwanese Ambassador to the U.S., Alexander Tah-Ray Yui, at the U.S. Capitol on January 18. Moolenaar had also met with outgoing Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in California last April.
Accompanying Moolenaar on the trip to Taiwan are Select Committee Chairman Mike Gallagher, Select Committee Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi, as well as Select Committee members Dusty Johnson, and Seth Moulton. The bipartisan delegation aims to further strengthen ties between the United States and Taiwan in the face of growing challenges posed by the Chinese Communist Party.
