Microsoft has released information on a recent CCP hacking operation against U.S. government agencies and private organizations. Press reports say the CCP hackers infiltrated the email accounts of U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo as well as high-level officials at the State Department for an entire month. The hacking campaign began in May and was discovered around the time Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with CCP officials in China in June.
“The CCP and its affiliates stop at nothing to surveil, intimidate, and threaten people they do not like. This year alone, the CCP has sent the spy balloon to spy on our military, operated secret police stations inside the United States, and now this major cyberattack on the U.S. government has been revealed. All this evidence shows why it would be a bad idea to allow the subsidiary of a company that pledges allegiance to the CCP to build and operate a factory in Mecosta County,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.
Moolenaar is a member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the CCP.
