Coldwater, Mich., USA (19 Oct. 2022) — Asama Coldwater Manufacturing, Inc. (ACM) is investing $19 million to add 39,000 square feet to its existing facility at 180 Asama Parkway, and to purchase machining and paint equipment. The expansion will create 32 new jobs for machine operators, maintenance associates, supervisors, inspectors, and fork truck operators. The expansion will begin in 2023 and is scheduled to be complete in 2024.
ACM’s expansion and investment in equipment will help the company fulfill new requirements to manufacture brake parts for automotive industry OEMs in North America, using the provided design specifications. “ACM has expanded operations in Coldwater, Michigan several times during our history and we look forward to expanding and investing in Coldwater, Michigan, once again. This expansion will add more value to our operations, broaden our customer base and address the growth ACM continues to experience” said Keith Teachout, Vice President, ACM.
Working with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Branch County Economic Growth Alliance and the City of Coldwater, ACM will apply for incentives tied to its investment and job creation. This includes applying for a tax abatement that would abate taxes on improvements for up to 12 years.
“Asama has had a strong presence in Coldwater since its founding in 1996. When this expansion is complete, the company will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in our community. We look forward to supporting the company’s continued growth in 2024 and beyond,” said Lisa Miller, Director of the Branch County Economic Growth Alliance.
ACM’s Coldwater location is home to its North America Research & Design Team and two foundry lines as well as two GEOMET ® paint lines. The integration of ACM’s R&D team within its Michigan Manufacturing facility allows the team to continuously develop & prototype processes and designs that replicate close to mass production conditions during early part validation and approval stages. It also allows ACM ability to cast, machine, sub-assemble, and paint all at one facility, creating a single source manufacturer for automotive brake components and assemblies.
