This elastic band weighs next to nothing and it usually sits in the back of a desk drawer with other odds and ends. When it gets pulled out to honor an officer's life that has been lost...it feels like it weighs a million pounds.
This is a mourning band and you will see us wearing one until Clare County Sheriff's Office Deputy Nicole Shuff is laid to rest.
Although we have never met Deputy Shuff, she is family. She is our sister and we are her brothers. When an officer dies...a little part of every officer dies. It's hard to explain and most can't understand it.
Thank you for your service Deputy Shuff. You have done your community and your fellow officers proud.
