City of Cheboygan issued the following announcement on Feb 11.
Dear Water Customer,
The City of Cheboygan Water Department is notifying customers to start running water upon receipt of this notice. The City billing department has been notified to add your address to the “Let Water Run List” for the calculated credit.
- Please proceed to run your water at least the size of a pencil, up to the width of a cigar.
- Continue to run your water (24 hours a day / 7 Days per week) until you are notified in the spring to discontinue.
- Failure to run water constantly could result in water service freezing, even if shut off temporarily.
- Once frozen, water service may not be restored till spring, in some cases. Thawing frozen water lines is only an option for some customers. Hose connections from house to house, may not be possible.
If water service freezes on the building side of the “curb stop” or outside the meter pit, the City will have no responsibility in the matter. The City may assist on a labor, equipment, material and overhead basis if the customer agrees to pay the total expense.
If the water service freezes between the water main and the “curb stop” or outside the water meter pit, the City will attempt to provide temporary water with a hose connection.
The water/sewer billing clerk shall issue a “Let Water Run Credit” for all customers on the City “Let Water Run List” on the next billing that is based on an actual reading of the customer’s water meter. The amount of the credit will be based on the previous year actual meter read billed amount.
The City of Cheboygan reserves the right at any time, to modify, revise, amend, terminate or otherwise change the City’s Let Water Run and Water Service Freezing Policy.
