Updates regarding the Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Village of Spring Lake issued the following announcement on Sept 8.

We received construction updates regarding the bridge rehabilitation project. All updates are below along with pictures. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The information below is the anticipated traffic changes while traveling within the construction influence area of the Bridge Rehabilitation work.

NORTHBOUND US-31

NB US-31 will be reduced to one lane of travel shifted onto SB US-31 from Jackson Street to Third Street for Thru traffic and one lane of travel on NB US-31 for local traffic.

NB US-31 to Muskegon/Ludington travelers will use only left lane.

NB US-31 to Spring Lake/M-104/Harbor Island Drive/Third Street will use only right lane.

Access to M-104 will remain open.  Ramp to EB M-104 lane shifted onto WB M-104.

Access to Third Street will remain open.

Access to Harbor Island Drive will remain open.

Access to Jackson Street will remain open. 

SOUTHBOUND US-31

SB US-31 will be reduced to one lane of travel from Third Street to M-104.

Access to M-104 will remain open.  Ramp to EB M-104 lane shifted onto WB M-104.

Access to Harbor Island Drive will remain open.

Access to Adams Street will remain open.

Access to Jackson Street will remain open.

EASTBOUND M-104

EB M-104 will be reduced to one lane shifted onto WB M-104 between US-31 and Savidge Ct.

WESTBOUND M-104

WB M-104 will be reduced to one lane between Pine St and Savidge Ct.

Access to Pine St will remain open.

Access to NB US-31 will remain open.

NAVIGABLE WATERS

Spring Lake Channel

Barges will be in the water at the east and west bridge piers.

Grand River

No changes in pattern.

NON-MOTORIZED TRAVEL PATHWAY

The pathway trail on the south side of the M-104 bridge will be closed to pedestrian traffic along and under the bridge.  Harbor Transit will have bus stops set up along the pathway trail and will offer free ride share services for bicycle and pedestrian traffic to navigate around the trail closures.

Pedestrians/bicycles will still be able to use the sidewalk on the north side of the M-104 bridge.

The pathway trail on the east side of the NB US-31 bascule bridge will be closed to pedestrian traffic along the bridge.  Harbor Transit will have bus stops set up along the pathway trail and will offer free ride share services for bicycle and pedestrian traffic to navigate around the trail closures.
