As jobs rise throughout Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's limitations on restaurants and bars are crippling the food industry.
Leaders said that Whitmer is to lengthen the statewide lockdown of bars and restaurants to Monday, Feb. 1.
The lockdown stretches a ban on dine-in services that reports propose has already deadened the industry.
The Michigan Licensed Beverage Association released a public comment announcing that Whitmer would make an important declaration during a press conference.
“The reopening would likely take place beginning Feb. 1, giving owners time to work with supply chain and figure out staffing," the statement read. "It will likely include a limited capacity and curfew, and then possibilities for restaurants that take additional public health measures to have a higher capacity limit.”
When Whitmer ordered the first statewide lockdown on March 23, 2020, Whitmer said it would conclude on April 13. But alternatively, the lockdown continued for over 56 days.
The state put out a public statement on Nov. 15 concerning the latest health department lockdown.
