CITY OF COLDWATER: Branch County Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Meeting Scheduled

Opn

City of Coldwater issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.

Branch County will hold an open house on October 20, 2020, from 4 to 6 pm at Coldwater's Heritage Hall, located in Heritage Park, to gather public input for the Branch County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the meeting, and social distancing practices will be followed.

The purpose of the public meeting is to solicit information from citizens in an open-house setting. Public input is critical in assisting the planning team in identifying and analyzing potential hazards affecting residents and recommending possible actions to reduce their impact. The hazards included are flood,  extreme heat, thunderstorm, wind, lightning, drought, tornado, hail, winter storm, wildfire, dam failure, etc.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan aims to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards by identifying and implementing cost-effective mitigation actions. The Federal Emergency Management Agency defines mitigation as sustained actions taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards and their effects.

The draft Hazard Mitigation Plan can be downloaded from the Branch County web site and reviewed prior to the meeting: https://www.countyofbranch.com/departments/emergency-management/

Questions and comments regarding the Hazard Mitigation Plan may also be addressed to Prein&Newhof, consultants; Attn: Thomas Smith by email at tsmith@preinnewhof.com.
