Andy Walker, head coach of Eastern Michigan University's men's golf program, announced the addition of Carlos Fernández Mortera to the team's 2025-26 roster. Fernández Mortera is transferring from the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he competed at the NCAA Division II level. The Spanish golfer will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Walker expressed enthusiasm about Fernández Mortera joining the team: "We are very excited to add Carlos (Charly) to our roster for this Fall," he said. "He's a great athlete who's proven he can win in college and will add depth to our lineup. Charly has a team-first mentality and has shown his leadership qualities in the classroom, on the golf course, and in the weight room. I can't wait to coach him the next couple of years."

Fernández Mortera recently concluded his second season with Charleston's Golden Eagles by finishing 17th at the NCAA Division II Championships and seventh at the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional. He was also named to the PING NCAA Division II Atlantic All-Region team.

In conference play, Fernández Mortera helped Charleston secure two Mountain East Conference titles, placing 15th individually as a freshman and runner-up last year. His collegiate career includes 11 top-10 finishes over two seasons, highlighted by winning the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational in September 2024.

During a recent visit home to Spain, Fernández Mortera placed 15th at the Campeonato de Espana Amateur Absoluto Masculino before winning medalist honors at another event with a score of five-under-par.

Fernández Mortera joins three other new additions under Coach Walker: transfers Charlie Box from England and Leandro Mihaich from Argentina, as well as freshmen Joshua Hess from Switzerland and Robby Turnbull from New Zealand.
