Eastern Michigan University has announced the appointment of Samantha Kavulich as the head coach of its cheerleading program. The announcement was made on June 23, 2025. Kavulich is expected to bring her experience in competitive cheerleading and professional leadership to enhance the program.

Kavulich's background includes four years with Michigan State University's co-ed cheerleading team, where she was captain of the white squad during the 2009-10 season. Her high school career saw her achieve national titles with organizations such as the World Cheerleading Association and Cheerleaders of America.

"I'm honored to take on the role of Head Cheer Coach at Eastern Michigan University," said Kavulich. "The cheer team is an integral part of the game day experience, and I'm looking forward to showing up strong for our fans and community at EMU athletic events and college cheerleading nationals this spring."

Her coaching career spans nearly a decade at the high school level, most recently serving as an assistant coach for Milford High School's varsity team from 2021 to 2024. Under her guidance, the team reached the MHSAA State Finals in 2023 and qualified regionally in 2022, 2023, and 2024. She also co-headed Haslett High School's cheer team during the 2011-12 season.

Together with her husband BK Kavulich, she owns Detroit Tumble and D Elite, a company that offers cheer, tumble, and stunt training across the United States. This venture enhances her connections within the cheer community while providing recruiting opportunities due to its established reputation.

Kavulich also brings extensive marketing and public relations experience from senior roles at agencies like FleishmanHillard and Weber Shandwick. Her expertise will aid in developing EMU's cheer program both on campus and in Ypsilanti.

She holds a bachelor's degree in advertising with a specialization in Public Relations along with a master's degree in advertising from Michigan State University.

The EMU cheerleading team supports various sports teams including football, men's basketball, and women's basketball while participating in university-wide events. The team engages in regular practices alongside customized strength training sessions through EMU Sports Performance.
