On May 30, 2025, Ben Braun was inducted into the Mid-American Conference Hall of Fame. Braun, who served as the head coach at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) from 1985 to 1996, expressed that the honor felt "a little surreal." His career at EMU was marked by significant achievements, including leading the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances and a Sweet 16 run in 1991. Braun is recognized as EMU's all-time winningest coach.

During his induction speech, Braun emphasized the collective effort behind his success. "You want to stay humble, but there are so many people that really need to share in this award," he said. He credited student-athletes, community members, and university staff for their contributions.

Charles E. Ramsey, Braun's longtime assistant and former EMU head coach, spoke highly of him as a mentor and friend. "He hired me three times," Ramsey noted. "And each time, he believed in me."

After leaving Eastern Michigan, Braun continued his coaching career at Cal in the Pac-10 and later at Rice University. Despite these moves, his connection to Ypsilanti remained strong; last year EMU named its basketball court after him.

Jack Brusewitz, a former EMU player and E-Club Hall of Famer who attended the event, praised Braun for elevating EMU basketball to new heights. He recalled how Braun instilled confidence in players during pivotal moments like their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1988.

Braun remains involved with basketball through ESPN broadcasts and supporting EMU games. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for continued success for EMU under Coach Stan Heath.

Reflecting on the evening's significance, Ramsey concluded: "You think Eastern Michigan basketball—you think Ben. That's the legacy. And tonight, that legacy's in the Hall of Fame."
