The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) track and field teams made a strong start at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Athens, Ohio. The event, held at Goldsberry Track on the Ohio University campus, saw EMU athletes secure two titles and several personal bests.
On the men's side, sophomore Jake McEachern from Lloydminster, Alberta achieved a season-best throw of 63.63 meters in the hammer throw to claim EMU's first title of the meet. In the javelin event, senior Drew Knieper from Lake Orion, Michigan earned a silver medal with a personal-best toss of 59.43 meters. Samuel Jeffrey also contributed significantly by placing second in the long jump and third in both the shot put and 400m dash within the decathlon.
For the women's team, senior Sofia Ivanko from Buenos Aires secured a MAC title in the 10,000m with a season-best time of 35:07.04. Senior Isabella Brent from Dearborn Heights delivered a personal best of 57.54 meters in the hammer throw to finish third.
The men's team ended day one in second place with 26 points behind Akron, while the women's team tied for third place with Bowling Green at 23 points each.
The championships will continue into their second day as both EMU programs look to build on their early successes.
