Eastern Michigan University's baseball team faced a challenging game against Michigan State University, resulting in a 3-1 loss. The non-conference match took place at Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Baseball Stadium on May 6, under difficult weather conditions.

The Eastern pitching staff had a strong performance, with seven pitchers allowing only two earned runs. Ty Stecko led the offense by reaching base three times through one hit and two walks.

Sophomore Emmett Gillies started for EMU, pitching two innings and allowing one run. Michigan State's Aidan Donovan secured the win, while Dominic Pianto earned the save. Gillies was charged with the loss.

The Eagles had an opportunity to score early but failed to capitalize on it. Michigan State scored first in the second inning with a sacrifice fly and added another run in the third inning. Eastern responded in the fourth inning when Bruce Jellison scored due to errors by Michigan State's defense.

From then on, both teams' pitchers dominated until Michigan State added an insurance run in the eighth inning with another sacrifice fly. Eastern attempted a comeback in the ninth but fell short.

Notably, Eastern's pitching limited their opponent to three runs or less for the seventh time this season. They also held Michigan State to just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

This game marked Eastern's sixth consecutive loss to Michigan State and continued their struggles against Big Ten opponents under Head Coach Robbie Britt.

Eastern will next face Central Michigan University in a three-game series as they aim for playoff contention.
