Eastern Michigan University (EMU) is set to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its first College World Series (CWS) appearance on Friday, May 16. The event will take place at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Michigan, as part of the team's Alumni Day celebrations. The EMU Eagles will face off against Kent State University Golden Flashes in their final home series of the 2025 season, with the game starting at 2 p.m.
The celebration will include a special pregame ceremony honoring the members of the 1975 and 1976 CWS teams. Among those expected to attend are former players Doug DeSantis, Ken Bruchanski, Douglas Carreri, Jeffery Washington, Danny Schmitz, Mike Lauerman, Jay Traver, Bob Owchinko, Glenn Gulliver, Ted Dasen, Jerry Keller, Jim Streeter, Jeremy Nordquist, Gary Strickland, and John Clay.
Fans attending the game have an opportunity to receive a replica jersey from the 1975-76 season featuring a commemorative patch. These jerseys will be given to the first 150 fans who arrive at the stadium. Additionally, fans wearing these jerseys can enjoy a discount on select menu items at Maiz Mexican Cantina in Ypsilanti later that evening.
The day’s events also include an on-field recognition ceremony for both CWS teams and other baseball alumni from EMU. Fans can engage in trivia related to EMU's participation in the College World Series during breaks between innings.
Following this eventful day against Kent State University Golden Flashes on May 16th at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti Michigan; Eastern Michigan University is scheduled for another match-up against Michigan State University's Spartans on Tuesday May sixth which forms part of their seventh "Power Four" encounter this season
