BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team was defeated by Bowling Green State University in their series finale, with the home team completing a sweep with an 8-4 victory. EMU senior pitcher Tyler Kapa delivered a strong performance, recording seven strikeouts during the game on April 27, 2025, at Steller Field.

Despite Kapa's efforts on the mound, the EMU offense, led by junior Ty Stecko with two hits and two RBIs, was unable to secure a win. Kapa, who started the game, pitched 4.1 innings, allowed five runs on 11 hits, and issued two walks. His seven strikeouts increased his conference-high total to 66 for the season.

Bowling Green's Ty Roder secured the win, improving the Falcons' record to 28-14 overall and 16-8 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). After this loss, EMU's record fell to 17-21 overall and 9-12 in conference play.

The game began with Bowling Green taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning after scoring off five singles. They extended their lead to 5-0 by the fourth inning. EMU responded with a run in the fifth but struggled to close the gap. Bowling Green increased their advantage again in the sixth and eighth innings. Despite scoring in the seventh and ninth innings, Eastern Michigan could not rally enough to secure a win.

Eastern Michigan pitchers, including sophomore Emmett Gillies and junior Nick Keane, together accumulated 11 strikeouts, marking the tenth time this season they've reached double digits in strikeouts.

Several players from EMU recorded individual achievements. Kapa's seven strikeouts were notable as he maintained his status as the MAC leader. Stecko managed multiple hits and RBIs, bringing his personal bests to 34 hits and 26 RBIs for the season. Giano Zuccaro continued to contribute with a double and a stolen base, while Devan Zirwas reached two hits and walked twice.

The series finale was the 194th all-time encounter between Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green. Looking ahead, EMU will return home for a MAC series against Northern Illinois from May 2 to May 4. Fans can attend the games at Oestrike Stadium for free or watch the live stream on ESPN+.
