Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field athlete Lachlan Cornelius achieved a notable milestone by running the fastest 800-meter time in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) for the second consecutive weekend. During the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet held at the GVSU Lacrosse/Track & Field Stadium, Cornelius recorded a personal-best time of 1:48.38. His performance not only set a personal record but also placed him sixth in the Great Lakes Region and eighth in EMU’s program history. Kian Wiles also delivered a strong performance, securing second place in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:48.77.

In addition to the event at GVSU, EMU's track and field team also participated in the Hillsdale College Tune-Up. Over the course of both events, the Eagles secured six first-place finishes, 19 top-three finishes, and multiple personal and season-best records. AJ Hawkins distinguished himself in the 1500m race at Hillsdale, finishing first with a personal-best time of 4:00.62. Jake McEachern achieved his first college victory in the hammer throw with a distance of 60.62 meters.

In women's competition, Erica King won the javelin event at the Hillsdale Tune-Up with a personal-best throw, further solidifying her position among the top performers in the conference and region. Freshmen athletes Shamoya Clemetson and Mariah Taylor also set personal records. Taylor claimed victory in the triple jump with a mark of 11.89m, while Clemetson delivered standout performances in the 100m hurdles and 200m events.

The EMU Eagles are looking towards their next competitions, scheduled for the upcoming weekend at the Jesse Owens Invitational and the Duke Twilight Meet.

"Cornelius' time ranks sixth in the Great Lakes Region and 42nd on the East Qualifying List," stated EMUEagles.com. Eastern Michigan's track assignments continue into early May with significant meets at Ohio State University and Duke University.
