Walkes and Singh excel at Texas A&M Invitational, achieving top times in MAC

Senior athletes Saraiah Walkes and Gabe Singh from Eastern Michigan University delivered notable performances in recent track and field meets. Competing in the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational and the Chippewa Challenge, Walkes and Singh achieved top times in the Mid-American Conference, underscoring their athletic prowess and personal records.

Walkes, from Manatee County, Florida, excelled in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.88, securing fifth place. Her performance in the 200-meter event with a time of 23.30, placed her seventh. These achievements establish Walkes' times as benchmarks in the MAC this season, as well as the third-best times in EMU history.

Gabe Singh, hailing from Toledo, Ohio, also impressed with a 400-meter hurdle time of 50.67, the fastest in the MAC this season by a margin of nearly three seconds. His performance ranks as the third-best time in EMU records, positioning him third in the event's field of 32.

The weekend's events saw other EMU athletes making rankings in their respective categories. Freshman Shamoya Clemetson stood out in the heptathlon at the Texas A&M Invitational, finishing each event within the top 10. Clemetson's 100-meter hurdles time of 14.37 was notable as the second-best in EMU's program history.

The Chippewa Challenge witnessed freshman Mia Biehl from East Lansing, Michigan achieving a personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.42, placing her fourth in the event. Seniors Nyla Joseph-Guevara and Isabella Brent also secured second place finishes in the long jump and hammer throw respectively.

In the men's category during the Texas A&M Invitational, sophomores Cason Doolittle and Samuel Jeffery showcased strong performances in the decathlon, with Doolittle achieving a personal best in the 400-meter dash ranking third in EMU decathlon history.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will continue their athletic journey with upcoming competitions at the Wake Forest Invitational on April 18 and the Georgia Tech Invitational from April 18-19.
