Eastern Michigan University's lacrosse team faced the Oregon Ducks in a home match at Scicluna Field in Ypsilanti. Despite Katheryn Wilson and Mackenzie Blackwell each achieving a hat trick, the Eagles lost to the Ducks with a final score of 13-11. The Eagles initially led with a score of 10-5, but the Ducks staged an eight-goal comeback that secured their win.
The match began with Eastern Michigan's Emerson Henry scoring early and establishing a 1-0 lead. Mackenzie Blackwell and Abby Alderman added to the score, increasing the lead to 3-1. Despite trading goals with the Ducks towards the end of the first quarter, EMU ended with a 5-3 lead, with Katheryn Wilson scoring two goals.
In the second quarter, the Eagles furthered their lead to 7-3, following scores by Blackwell and Payton Bloedow. The Ducks responded but EMU closed the half with a 9-5 lead, as Wilson and Blackwell completed their hat tricks.
After halftime, Roya Khaleeli scored another for the Eagles, but the Ducks took control with a six-goal streak, leading 11-10 by the end of the third quarter. The Ducks extended their lead in the fourth. Emerson Henry scored her second goal, reducing the deficit, but EMU couldn't catch up, resulting in their defeat.
Mackenzie Blackwell's hat trick marked her 11th this season, breaking her previous record of 10 set last year. Her season total stands at 45 goals and 49 points. Katheryn Wilson recorded her fifth hat trick, with 25 goals for the year, second only to Blackwell.
Emerson Henry had a team-high four points, including two assists, and Karly Low contributed her first collegiate point with an assist. Maddie Porter recorded nine saves, setting a new EMU season record of 133 stops, surpassing her previous record.
The Eagles as a team managed 11 caused turnovers, the 10th-most in a single game in their program history. They have achieved 21 hat tricks this season, setting a new record for the team.
The next match for the Eagles is scheduled for Sunday, April 13, against Kent State University in a Mid-American Conference game at Dix Stadium, Kent, Ohio.
