The Mid-American Conference (MAC) has announced the recipients of its weekly lacrosse awards, with Eastern Michigan University (EMU) players earning recognition in two out of three categories. Mackenzie Blackwell received the MAC Offensive Player of the Week title, while Maddie Porter was honored as the MAC Goalkeeper of the Week as of April 8.
Blackwell, from North Beach, Maryland, achieved hat tricks in two games, scoring three goals against the University of Michigan and a season-high-tying five goals during a victory over the University of Detroit Mercy. This performance brought her total to 42 goals for the season. She leads the MAC in total goals and goals per game. Blackwell has scored a total of 27 career hat tricks.
Porter, from Montrose, New York, was recognized for her defensive skills in goal, recording 18 saves over two games. Her contribution included 11 saves in the game against Detroit Mercy, where the team allowed their fewest league game goals this year. Porter has achieved 11 or more saves in a game six times this season.
This recognition marks the fifth and sixth awards for the EMU program this season. Blackwell and Porter have both received these honors multiple times. Katheryn Wilson was previously named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week on March 25.
This week, EMU has two games on their schedule. They are set to play the University of Oregon at home and Kent State University on the road.
