The Eastern Michigan University rowing team began a series of home competitions at their course on Ford Lake with races against Michigan State University on Saturday, April 5. Despite the cold and rainy conditions, the EMU team put forth a notable effort in its first of three home regattas this spring.
The day's competitive highlight came from Eastern Michigan's 1V8+ team, finishing the 2,000-meter race in 7:00.1, closely approaching the seven-minute mark. The 2V8+ race ended with EMU posting a time of 7:18.9, with the closest competition from Michigan State finishing at 6:56.1.
EMU's 3V8+ clocked in at 7:49.6, marking their best performance since acquiring a time of 7:26.968 at the Coastal Athletic Association Championships on May 15, 2022. The 1V4+ team concluded their race at 8:05.2, providing strong competition to Michigan State’s 2V4+ team.
Eastern Michigan's rowing lineup for the event included:
- First Varsity 8+: Tatum Nettle, Lily Wilhelm, Abbi Lauth, Bryah Moriarty, Emma Wyss, Sydney Junkans, Brooke Karesh, Gabby Charvat, Natalie Prairie.
- Second Varsity 8+: Tiffany Chen, Abby Zola, Madison Lisitsin, Ellie Latunski, Megan Fowler, Delani Fisher, Lauren Tompkins, Olivia Hansen, Eleanor Kissel.
- Third Varsity 8+: Alivia Dishon, Lindsey Pfile, Hannah Brunton, Abigail Tirollo, Kendall Moore, Campbell Moore, Julia Maxwell, Kristen Ford, Theresa Carey.
- Varsity 4+: Tara Cuso, Stella Balcom, Emily MacIntyre, Abby Grogan, Maia Balderson.
Looking ahead, the EMU team is set to host the Ford Lake Cup on Saturday, April 26. The regatta will feature schools anticipated to join the Mid-American Conference for rowing in the 2025-26 academic year, including the University of Delaware, High Point University, University of Massachusetts, and Temple University. The event will take place at Ford Lake Park, with a $5 parking fee for spectators.
