Eastern Michigan University's baseball team faced a setback against the University of Michigan Wolverines in their home-and-home series, losing 13-2 in a seven-inning game on April 1 at Oestrike Stadium. This non-conference match shifted Eastern's record to 13-12, while Michigan's improved to 16-12.

Leading the Wolverines to victory, Tate Carey secured the win, while Eastern's freshman right-hander Colin Milligan from Delaware, Ohio, was handed the loss in his collegiate starting debut. Despite the defeat, freshman left-hander Ethan LaPointe from Windsor, Ontario, made a notable impact out of the bullpen, achieving a personal best with four strikeouts over 2.2 innings, giving up no earned runs.

Michigan took the lead in the second inning, scoring two runs from a double. They expanded that lead in the third with a two-run home run to make it 4-0. Eastern responded in the third inning as Cooper Vance hit a solo home run, closing the gap to 4-1. The fifth inning saw Michigan extending their lead further to 9-1. Eastern's Harrison Travis then hit his sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth, making it 9-2. Michigan added to their tally with four more runs in the sixth and seventh innings combined, concluding the game at 13-2.

Vance's performance was a bright spot for Eastern as he hit his second home run of the season, continuing a streak of three consecutive games with an RBI. Travis, meanwhile, tied with another teammate for the second-most home runs on the team, with both players ranking sixth in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

Eastern, for whom LaPointe pitched the longest outing of his career without conceding an earned run, previously enjoyed success against Michigan with a scoreless inning on March 25 in a 9-8 win. The Eagles' pitchers faced 41 batters, allowing seven ground balls and five fly balls.

Historically, this marked the 403rd match against a Big Ten team for Eastern, holding an all-time record of 151-249-5. The two teams met for the 52nd time, with Michigan leading the series 34-18 after the recent encounter.

Looking forward, Eastern Michigan will host Ball State for a three-game MAC series from April 4-6, with live streams available on ESPN+ and Eagle All-Access. Admission to the series is free.
